Ms. Barrat’s roles and accomplishments specific to the Foundation so far include serving as immediate past board chair from 2017-2020 and as a member of the executive and finance committees. Additionally, she served as chair of the governance and CEO search committees.
Career Prospectus

Sherry S. Barrat retired in 2012 as vice chairman and member of the management committee of The Northern Trust Company, a global manager of private and institutional wealth headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Barrat was president of Northern Trust’s global wealth management business from 2006 – 2011, chairman and CEO of Northern Trust’s Western U.S. Region from 1999 – 2005, and president of the Palm Beach Region from 1992 – 1998. Ms. Barrat joined Northern Trust in Miami, Florida, in 1990. Before Northern Trust, her early career was spent at AmeriFirst Bank. After retirement, she returned to Florida in 2013 with her husband, Tom, and they live on Singer Island.

Ms. Barrat graduated from Barry University, summa cum laude, and is also a graduate of the CEO Perspectives Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business.

Community and Philanthropic Highlights
  • She currently serves as board chair for the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and was a previous board member of the Palm Beach chapter of the International Women’s Forum
  • Ms. Barrat is also a corporate board director of three firms: NextEra Energy, Inc., the parent company of Florida Power & Light and NextEra Energy Resources, where she is the lead director; Arthur J. Gallagher & Co, the world’s fourth-largest insurance broker, where she chairs the compensation committee; and Prudential Insurance Funds, which oversees $170 billion in client investments
  • Ms. Barrat has been actively engaged in each of the communities where she has lived: Miami, Palm Beach, Los Angeles, and Chicago
